The sweet potato plant grows an attractive
trailing vine that is well
suited for containers and hanging baskets. It will be a lovely addition
to a hanging basket that also contains plants with vibrant blooms
because these vines will quietly spill down from the basket without
detracting from the colorful blossoms of other plants.
You may also
plant the sprawling annual underneath woody shrubs and larger perennials
in a mixed border. However
you use them, remember to cut the tips of the sweet potato vine to
encourage bushier growth. Sweet
potato vines prefer full sun but tolerate part shade, and stem cuttings
can be taken in the summer for winter propagation.
We have several varieties of healthy plants that will look great in
hanging baskets or other uses. Because of their colorful stems, our
Hernandez variety would make an attractive hanging basket. If you want a
bushy, longer-seasoned hanging basket, we recommend that you use our
Japanese variety.
