Sweet Potato Plants and Seeds

Good sweetpotatoes start with good seed. Sweetpotato seed has to be updated constantly, because it loses quality rapidly from one year to the next. Virus can quickly infect an entire crop; resulting in low yields, poor quality, and misshapen roots Scott Farms is one of only a few farms in the world that grow micropropogated, virus free plants for sweetpotato production.

Micropropogation involves eliminating all viruses that may affect the growing potential of a sweetpotato plant. This is not a genetic alteration in any way. This process simply brings the plant back to its original state-free of all viruses and other afflictions.

Source "mother plants" are taken to our specifically designed greenhouse and increased by taking small cuttings and transplanting them into hanging baskets. Every plant in our greenhouse has a record. In the event of a virus outbreak, each infected plant and its relatives are removed and destroyed. This is done to insure that only the highest quality sweetpotato plants anywhere reach our fields.

Virus free plants mean amazing yields, uniform roots, and outstanding storage capabilities. This program was created so commercial growers could obtain better seed stock, thus producing higher quality sweetpotatoes on less acreage. Whether you are a commercial grower, or just need a few plants for your garden, Scott Farms can provide you with the plant you need to grow a better sweetpotato.

Every sweetpotato plant order is sent with specific step-by-step instructions for growing. We have many different varieties to choose from. We also can ship any size order you require, so call for specific pricing and information. Sweetpotato plants are available from April 15 to July 15.

Certified Seed for Commercial Production

Besides growing and selling micropropogated plant material, we are also a certified seed producer of many different varieties of sweetpotatoes. We grow and sell both 1 st and 2 nd generation certified seed for commercial production. The key to growing a top quality crop of sweetpotatoes is to begin with good seed. There have been many studies conducted proving that sweetpotato yield and quality will deteriorate rapidly if seed stocks are not updated at least every 3 years. We ship our seed in 40lb. boxes as well as bulk bins.
